Other educational activities (seminars, laboratory and research activities, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary training)

In addition to the frontal teaching (lessons) the D.D. provides for the delivery of the following other educational activities

1. Computer Improvement  

The activities involve the acquisition of computer skills related to research, especially software (databases; statistical processing programs; SPSS). PhD students will have multimedia classrooms and PC stations connected to the University network.  

2. Seminars  

In addition to the curricular hours of frontal lessons, doctoral students will participate in in-depth, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary Seminars, related to the themes of the Course, of a national and international nature, with the participation of Italian and foreign scholars.
In particular, it is planned to carry out, with the help of specialized technical personnel, training activities to provide doctoral students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the research and identification of funding calls and for the drafting of national, European and international projects.  

3. Fundamental principles of ethics, gender equality and integrity  

The PhD in epigraph, consistent with the lines of research and with the activities of third mission carried out within the Scipog Department, aims to promote the dissemination of fundamental principles of ethics, gender equality and integrity.  

4. Enhancement and dissemination of results, intellectual property and open access to research data and products  

The doctorate promotes the enhancement and dissemination of the results achieved through the organization and participation of doctoral students in study conferences, seminars and cultural events both in Italy and abroad.
Research activities may be published in national and international scientific journals, including A-groups. They may also be published, after evaluation, in open access mode, by the Publishing House of the Messina University Press. Some doctoral theses deemed deserving by the College of Teachers will be published in the series of the Department of Political and Legal Sciences.  

5. Language refinement  

The activity includes training courses that are organized around language skills.
The programme aims to develop foreign language communication skills as an indispensable tool for professional life. It is based on the presentation of different documents for the study of the language of specialties relating to the language of political and legal communication. The courses aim, therefore, to deepen Academic Skills in English and Spanish, and to possess specific knowledge.
At the end of the course PhD students will be able to work independently and in a group, with specific organisational flexibility skills.
During the PhD course a part of the lectures and seminars can be held in a foreign language. Oral communication and the presentation of research results (exhibition modalities and presentation of research projects), as well as the drafting of the main genres of writing related to research (report, essay, journal article, monograph) can also take place in a foreign language.  

6. Training activities aimed at the knowledge of European and international research systems

The activities include two main paths:

  1. The study of research resources and their correct use.
  2. The study of research methodology related to individual disciplinary fields.

Expertise is also provided regarding national and international funding schemes (PRIN; FIRB; HORIZON) and how projects are compiled and reported.

The faculty of the PhD will adopt the research management systems most in use in the international scientific community.
